According to Traditional Chinese thought, our life is influenced by many factors. The main five of them:
1. Destiny
2. Luck
3. Feng Shui
4. Philanthropy
5. Education
“一命二运三风水，四积功德五读书"
1) BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny 出生时间（先天之命）
Destiny is pre-destined and and influence by, conditions already determined at our birth. This is our map of life which pathed our destiny.
Though we cannot change our destiny, we can foresee the timing and when an events are going to happen and
prepare ourself and try to adapt to circumstances accordingly.
If you know it is going to rain, you can bring an umbrella. If it is windy, you can put on a windbreaker.
Likewise, if our path does not seem great, we find what really are the causes by using fengshui and can look to geomancy for help.
BaZi, which translates to Eight Characters in English. is an ancient form of Chinese Astrology. It is part of the original five classical studies of Chinese civilisation, and is part of the field of ‘Ming’ or Life. Ancient Chinese sages were extremely interested in developing a system of studying a person’s life – their character, their relationships, the events that will happen or not happen in a person’s life, their wealth, their health. BaZi, and an alternative system, called Purple Star Astrology, is the culmination of many years of research and development by Chinese sages, to find a system to accurately predict how a person’s life will unfold over the years.
From these 'Eight Characters', we can determine whether our 'Self Element' is Metal, Water, Wood, Fire or Earth.
Our destiny can be revealed by assessing the 'Strength' and 'Weakness' of these elements and how they interact with one another. Knowing the 'Strength' and 'Weakness' of our 'Self Element', we can use 'Favourable Colour Schemes' and 'Directions' to enchance our destiny.
A professional BaZi consultant, from these eight characters of the chart alone, will be able to derive information on almost any and every aspect of a person’s life – what health problems they will face, their appearance (fat, tall, skinny, thin), character traits, financial ability, earning capacity, challenging times, opportunities for advancement, setbacks and windfalls.
2) Luck 成长时代（运气）
Our destiny and luck cycle can be revealed by analysing the interactions amongst the components of our birth data.
Luck refers to variations in our fortune - the 'Ups' and 'Downs' in our life. If we address the factors that control our luck, we can 'Moderate the Downs' and 'Maximise the Ups' and even 'Transform a Poor Fate into a Successful One'.
There is a Chinese saying "命好不如运好" which means our BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny is good but not be as good as having good "10 years luck cycle (大运 "ta yun").
This is because, even if you have a very good BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny, you still need a good luck cycle the "Ta Yun" else your luck won't be materialised.
Time or our luck cycle is a very "large environment". Our luck changes with times. Our world is keep changing.
Our BaZi Four Pilars of Destiny is our cars and time luck cycle is our roads. You need a wide and smooth roads in order to succeed.
3) Feng Shui 居住环境（风水）
'Feng Shui' is the 'Art of Living' in harmony with the environment. It is also about how the environment conditions us and how we, in turn, influence our environment.
Knowing more about the factors that control our luck, we can enhance them with 'Feng Shui'. But, if our luck is on the down side, 'FengShui' can buffer the hard knocks and rude shocks that come our way.
4) Philanthropy 建功立业积善成德（功德）
Make a contribution and an achievement.
'There is a cause and effect for our every action'. If we create more good causes, we can change our 'Karma' and thereby improve our destiny.
5) Education 知识技术（读书）
Education opens the door to more opportunities for a better life and future. It teaches us to gain and enhance 'Knowledge', a commodity of utmost importance in this 'Information Age'.
Learning is a lifelong process, and helps us become a better persons.
