The home is a very big investment and commitment for most of us. In terms of Feng Shui, this investment is not only money, but also an investment in the wealth and health of your entire family. Therefore, it is very important and a worthwhile effort to check the feng shui of a house before deciding to buy it, because feng shui cures can be expensive and sometimes just impossible to do.

Here are some preliminary feng shui tips if you have set your eyes on a new house, and are just a step away from making it your dream home. The price of the house is right, the sellers seem nice enough and honest, and your agent swears there are others waiting in line for this piece of prized property.

Check List

1. Very basic but most important.

Make sure the house you are interested in are either (in term of feng shui)

a. SUPPORT WEALTH & HEALTH,
b. SUPPORT WEALTH ALONE or
c.SUPPORT HEALTH ALONE.

Never choose a house that is both disastrous to your wealth and to your health. This is due to the fact that this type of houses require feng shui remedies and feng shui cures can be very expensive and sometimes just impossible to achieve.

For this part you will need to use our tool at fyling stars feng shui tool.

2. Observe the land formation and environment of your house.

When you go house or apartment hunting, remember the “Armchair” formation. Look around notice the external environment of the house or building. It must blend into the surrounding. The front should be relatively low and there should be ample breathing area so-called “Bright Hall” (Ming Tang). On the contrary, the back of the house should be higher. This is what we call “Back Support  Mountain” (Kao Shan). Just like an armchair, we love to have a high back with solid armrests and ample leg room.

Natural land forms like hills and mountains plus modern structure like building affect the feng shui of a house. A good way to observe this is to stand outside the house and look around. In apartments, it is also good to take a look outside every window and check the view.

a. Avoid houses that are dwarfed by other buildings.
b. Avoid houses on steep road.
c. Avoid facing mountain that look bad for example even trees do not grow on the mountain, rocky mountain, steep mountain, jagged mountain rocks, and so on.
d. Look out for sharp edged structures like corners of buildings, pointed roofs, jagged mountain rocks, or huge sharp edged sculpture pointing toward the house. These bring inauspicious energy to the house.
e. Power stations near the house, and power lines running over the house brings inauspicious energy too.
f. Buildings, places that represent sickness and death, in the vicinity affects the house with oppressive energy.
Avoid houses near hospitals, grave yards, hospices, slaughter houses.
g. Religious like church, temple and mosque. even though this does not necessary bad, you will need some expert to look into this. Better to avoid.
h. Schools and kindergarten. This is good yang energy. But again this depend on oneself. If you cannot stand the noise, then avoid this.
i. Police station, fire station. Too much yang energy.

A. A row of houses choose the one in the middle, a few row of houses choose the house at the front row.

Having houses on your left and right of your house indicates supports and proctection.
Having houses behind your house means you have support.

If there are only two houses should I choose the right one or the left one? Ladies choose the one on your left; and man choose then the right.

What do you mean by "left or right" ?
Stand at the main door, facing out, extend your hand, your left hand side if your left.

What you mean by who make the choice?
Who paid for the house, the one with bigger share or the breadwinner.

Why is that so?
House on your right means "ladies" and with houses on your right will increase your strength and luck.

B. Do not choose a house that are the only one taller than the rest.

Alone and taller will have a sense of unsecure and to have nothing to depend on; be helpless.
Any hardship, setback and difficulty you will have to face them all by yourself and bear it alone.
Take for example the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City during September 11th or 9/11 attacks.

3. Check the road forms.

Do this as you drive toward the house. Observe the roads around the house.

a. There should be no roads directly pointing towards the house.
b. The house should be at the concave bend of the road; i.e. the road should bend around the house rather than away from the house. Straight road is alright.
c. The house should not be at the dead end of the road. This is not good for marriage.
d. Roads that completely encircle the house, is inauspicious.
e. The house should not have roads on more than 2 sides.
f. The road in front of the house should not be too near. This is drain away your luck.
g. Roads may not be found at both back and front of the house.
h. Houses near fast roads, like highways, train tracks, airport runways are very inauspicious.
i. Houses under fast roads, like highways, train tracks, airport runways are very inauspicious. Avoid houses under or near flyover bridges.
j. Avoid houses near steep, heavy-traffic roads.

Best are houses near quiet road at a quiet area (but not too quiet). Houses around a large cul de sac are good, provided the road entering it is not pointing towards the house.

4. Observe the neighborhood.

No man is an island. No matter how nice and perfect is a house, its Qi is ultimately affected by the surrounding neighborhood.

a. Be wary of unusually "quiet" neighborhoods. Stay away from neighborhoods that have too many vacant houses, no sign of children, pets, or other fun human activity like gardening. These places have dead qi.
b. Too many unfinished, run-down houses indicate overall bad feng shui.

5. How does it feel as you enter the house?

How do you feel as you approach the entrance of the house? Inside the house. Use your six sense or gut feeling. It is necessary to be aware of the need for intuition of this sort before viewing the house.

a. Is the main door gives you the feeling of being threatened? Some times you may not understand why it makes you feel uneasy, but it is wise to take it as a sign that is is bad feng shui.
b. Avoid houses with strange structure, overgrown garden, or irregular shaped plot of land. For example, you find it difficult to even find the main door. It you cannot find the entrance easily, good luck will find difficulty entering the home too!
c. The house look weird. For example entrances that look like they are being capped by an out-of-shaped awning, strange over-sized roofs should be avoided too.

Main door is very important   Stand inside your house or apartment, look out of your main door and various windows. Ideally, you should not see sharp angles or pointed edges in close proximity to you.

6. Structure and layout of the house.

The structure and layout of the house is everything in Feng Shui. Enter a prospective house with a conscious effort to feel it's ambiance. Use you five senses to intuitively audit the house.

a. Avoid irregularly shaped buildings, buildings with triangular shape, protrusions, spear shaped buildings are frecious for bringing down relationships in the family. This is because the more irregular shape will mean more sharp wall corners in the house. Rectangular shaped buildings are the best choice.
b. The roof should be the right size. Not very huge and dominates the house structure, occupants in it will probably feel dominated too.
c. Windows bring in light and qi. Houses with windows too small or too few windows trap stagnant qi.

d. Long corridors are common in many houses. This a poor feng shui feature, because it allows little movement and "sha qi" brought about by a bottle neck effect.

e. Sniff out humidity and dampness. This is common in cellars and attic. Avoid homes that have signs of dampness and humidity because it is a precursor for bigger problems later on. You can smell dampness in enclosed rooms. Other signs are water stains on walls and fungus.

7. Good Address or Auspicious House Number

Number 13 is a taboo with the westerners but the Chinese finds it acceptable. The Chinese avoids Number 4 as it sounds like “death” and likes the number 8.

However and whatever, the truth is numbers do not have an impact on Feng Shui, which is basically the art of living in harmony with our physical environment. Certain numbers do have “feel good” implications for some people and it certainly does not hurt if you adore certain number combinations.
